Beasts of the Field
A cruel man whose cruelty seems somehow reluctant, a man driven by his love of sharing knowledge and his faith, driven paradoxically towards something that his god has explicitly hidden from him and that he knows is wrong.
That's right folks, it's a comedy.
Part of the series of plays that made up the Runaways 2023 festival Milking the Beast and Going to Hell (great writeup by The Bridge Here)
Directed by: Niky Crawford (one of and also the only sibling I will ever have)
Starring: Gannon Reedy and Dylan Fahoome
PostMortem
I wasn't alone in feeling like producing these plays was something of a revelation. We all were vaguely giddy afterwards feeling as if we'd really pulled something off that was bigger than itself. It felt like everything I'd written on the page was heightened and improved tenfold by niky, gannon and dylan's interpretation. The influencer as written was an extremely simple character and dylan's grounding of them made them feel so present. Meanwhile gannon's wild antics brought a chaos that I'd only gestured at on the page.
One other fun moment was being able to pull off the vaguely elaborate texting trading card simulator in which audience members could text a number on the projector and get a beast that they'd saved themselves.
Seeing everyone comparing the beasts that they'd got made me fucking gleeful and immediately addicted to the high of giving people an experience that matters enough for them to share.
10/10 would milk again
